Harry Hutchins:
Harry Hutchins, Chief of Course for the Nordic Combined events watched as skiers entered the stadium area.
In Nordic combined, the skiers first compete on the jump. Start times are then calculated based on the
jumping results. The jumper with the longest ride starts first in the cross-country race, and the other skiers start at intervals proportionate to their standings in the jumping event.

Jonathan Kling:
Jonathan Kling of the Eastern Division broke Mt. Itasca's hill record on Wednesday with jumps of 75.5 and 76.5 meters. This picture gives a good perspective of the jumper's height above the surface of the landing in
mid-flight. Photo by Marianne Fairall.

Hill Record - Another View:
Here's another shot of Jonathan Kling on one of his record-setting flights. Again on this picture, you can
see that the vertical height above the landing is not that great. Ski jumping is about distance, not height.
This photo was taken by Mike Andrews.

Stars of the Future:
Eight-year-old Tyler Hutchins and seven-year-old Andre Denney skied down the landing hill portion of the 70-meter jump in Coleraine bearing the flags of Canada and the United States to start the day's Junior Olympic events.
Three days later, after being inspired by what they saw during the Junior Olympic competitions, they made club history as the youngest skiers ever to jump from Coleraine's 70-meter slide.
