jumping information.
We thank you for your interest in our sport. Most of the sites below will have links to other

Regional Clubs - US & Canada
For locations of ski jumping clubs in the US and Canada, and
links to those that have websites, please visit our Regional
Jumping Clubs page via the link button above.
Organizations & Sites - US & Canada
AmericanSkiJumping
This website is devoted to preserving the history of ski jumping in
the United States. It contains a virtual Hall of Fame. It grew out
of an effort begun by a handful of old midwestern jumpers to give
formal recognition to Red Wing MN as the "Birthplace of
American Ski Jumping." The first officially recorded tournament
was held there in 1887, and a 37 foot flight by Mikkel
Hemmestvedt has long been recognized as the first North
American distance record. Although there's a terrific display of
ski jumping memorabilia at the historic St James Hotel in Red
Wing, the American Ski Jumping website is intended to serve as
a virtual museum. Please visit the website and use the contact
information provided there if you're interested in learning about
the history of our sport, or if you have something to contribute.
SkiJumpEast.com
An excellent source for information related to ski jumping. It's
maintained by Don West, the oldest active jumper in the USA.
He’s from Plattsburgh, New York Lots of great links, this is a site
to browse when you can take the time to really explore. Although
it's primarily aimed at the Eastern U.S., it presents a good look at
American ski jumping from old days to the present. Kudos to Don
for a great site!
Independent Websites
SkiLibrary.com
Developed by Ingrid Wicken, who has written several books
about western skiing history, especially in Southern California.
Many people are surprised to learn that there were some big
jumps in that region. She also has a physical facility for her
collections, and it's open by appointment. We think you'll find this
to be an interesting and informative website.
National & International Organizations
International Ski Federation (FIS)
The governing body for all organized skiing in the world. The FIS
is the ultimate rule-making and sanctioning authority for all
international ski federations and events. This is an interesting
site. Make a note to follow a tournament online next season ...
the FIS does a fantastic job with real-time scoring. You can follow
every ride and immediate updating of the scoreboard.
Another interesting topic on this site is their Injury Surveillance
System ... find it under the Medical tab. You’ll see that of the ski
and snowboard disciplines they track, ski jumping ranks as the
second-safest, ranking just above cross-country!
Skiing Heritage Quarterly
Published by the International Skiing History Association,
this website is loaded with superb historical information on the
sport of skiing. Former SKI Magazine editors Morten Lund, Dick
Needham, and Seth Masia are among the contributors to this
outstanding site. Primarily oriented toward Alpine, but there are
occasionally good jumping and NC articles, too. Attractive and
informative. From their homepage, you can find a link to read
ALL BACK ISSUES via Google Books! This site is devoted
to SKIING in all forms, not just jumping, but it’s a fantastic
resource for those interested in the history of our sport.
Places of Interest - USA
National Ski Hall of Fame
The U.S. National Ski Hall of Fame is located in Ishpeming,
Michigan. If you're planning a trip to Upper Michigan or northern
Wisconsin, you might consider a visit to this interesting museum.
Your webmaster graduated from Northern Michigan University at
Marquette back in 1965, and has visited the museum on various
occasions. It's something that you'll enjoy if you are interested in
the history of the sport in America. And don't forget to eat a pasty
when you're among the "Yoopers."
Utah Olympic Park
The site of the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics continues to be a
great destination for visitors, both in person and on the web. The
90 and 120 meter jumps are used year round for training as well
as competition (a Continental Cup summer event was held in
July 2003, and a World Cup is scheduled for winter 2004). In
addition, there are 10, 20, and 40 meter junior jumps, also used
year-round. This website isn't specific to jumping, but it's a terrific
showcase for the whole Olympic complex!
Nordic Combined Websites
FIS Nordic Combined
Good source of information about FIS Nordic Combined
competition at the World Cup Level. Similar in layout and
appearance to the FIS ski jumping site Berkutschi.
Media Websites
TheSkiChannel.com
The Ski Channel covers all aspects of the sport of skiing,
including jumping and Nordic Combined. Their coverage is
first-rate, and they’ve got a lot of video available. Take some
time to explore this site ... great resource!
Ski Flying!
Here are links to the world's six ski flying hills ... these are
rated for flights of 170 to 185 meters; the world's record flight
of 239 meters was set on the Planica jump in 2006 by
Norway’s Bjorn Einar Romoeren. In 2002, Alan Alborn of the
US flew 221.5 meters at Planica.
* Planica, Slovenia
* Kulm, Austria (Tauplitz/Bad Mitterndorf)
* Oberstdorf, Germany
* Harrachov, Czech Republic (link down)
* Vikersund, Norway
* Ironwood MI, USA, Copper Peak, last event 1994
(this website contains photo collage of all six)
International Websites
You can use "Language Tools" on www.Google.com to
translate web pages; you just have to type in or paste in the
URL of the page you want to translate. You will find that
automatic translations are imprecise, and can be quite
amusing, but you will be able to follow the topic reasonably
well.
Berkutschi.com
Comprehensive overall ski jumping site, English language,
maintained in Austria. Covers both World Cup and
Continental Cup jumping (men & women), lots of information
on various national teams and athletes. Lots
of interesting articles.
SkiSprungSchanzen.com English version
An exhaustive, authoritative website about ski
jumping hills worldwide, with specifications,
photos, records, and other information about
virtually every ski jumping venue that's in use
today, as well as many, especially in the USA, which are long
gone. In addition, there are articles of general interest, and
exhaustive historical records of hill records, and winners of
major tournaments going back at least as far as the 1924
Olympics. This is as close as you'll find to an online
encyclopedia of ski jumping. You can spend a LOT of time
here.
SkiJumpingCanada.com
The other North American ski jumping country! The
Canadians have been absent from the Olympics since 1992,
but they have an excellent group of young jumpers training in
the Calgary Olympic complex. Like the US, they've got an
excellent women's team to complement the make athletes,
and their program is producing some excellent young
jumpers.
LadiesSkiJumping.com
A Polish site, English language, devoted to women's ski
jumping. Very comprehensive, good coverage of
competitions, extensive info on teams and athletes,
information is kept very current.
ESkijumping.com
From Poland, in Polish ... comprehensive site covers all
major series; World Cup, World Championships, Men's &
Women's Continental Cup. You won’t likely be able to read it,
but you’ll probably see that in ski jumping is as popular in
Poland as NFL football or NASCAR are in the USA.
Siugraskoszeg.hu
Hungarian site! No, it's not in English, but we think you'll
enjoy visiting this very attractive site from a country not often
associated with our favorite sport.
Russian Sports Club - Flying Skier
This is our first listing from Russia. It's a very attractive site,
and you can switch from English to Russian via a link in the
upper left corner of the homepage. There's a very familiar
skier image in the top banner! This is an exceptionally
attractive and complete site, worth taking the time to explore
completely. Huge page of links, interesting photos of Russian
jumps. It's based in Perm, Russia, home of Roman Kirov,
who has competed in the United States for several years.
www.SkiJumping.pl
Another really interesting Polish site. Mostly in Polish, but
take some time to explore. There's a "forum" section with a
button at the bottom of the page that will switch you to
English (click the Dla Kibica link, then Forum). They also
have a large collection of photos, link Foto Galerie, and lots
of jumping videos at Filmy ze Skokami. The drop lists to
select videos are understandable even if you don't read or
speak Polish.
www.Skocznia.com
Another attractive Polish ski jumping site. Like many of the
excellent international sites, there's no English version, but
it's easy to navigate, and fun to visit.
