Lahti FIN

Another great day for Billy D as well as a great week! He won the Individual competition in Lahti. He jumped very well and skied a great race. He held off a pack of the fastest NC skiers in world to win today. We have a sprint tomorrow and 2 more in Oslo next weekend. Thanks for all the help and support.

En Route From Sapporo JPN to Lahti FIN

We are sitting on a plane already traveling to Lahti for the next World Cup competitions this weekend. A quick update from last Nordic Combined event at the World Championships in Sapporo. Bill Demong won a silver medal yesterday in the Individual event in Sapporo. He jumped to 8th place and skied the 2nd fastest time to outsprint Anssi Koivuranta for the silver medal. Johnny also jumped pretty well but didn't ski as he hoped and finished 20th. Brett and Eric Camerota continued to work hard and will be fighting for high results soon.

Sapporo JPN

Sorry it has been so long between updates. It has been a busy season chasing snow through Europe and looking for wireless hotspots. Both of which have been hard to find this year!

We are now in Sapporo for the Nordic World Championships. We have competed in 2 of the 3 events so far with Billy Demong finishing 13th in the Sprint competition last week.

The sprint competition was on Friday. We started with Billy Demong, Johnny Spillane, Eric Camerota, and Bryan Fletcher, who got his first ever World Championships start. It was a pretty cool course as the stadium for the XC race was in the Sapporo Dome where the Hokkaido Fighters (Japanese Major League baseball) play their home games. Bill didn't jump quite as well as he had in training so he really didn't have much of a chance in the race but he skied hard because you never know and had turned in the 3rd fastest time. Eric Camerota was disqualified after jumping because of a suit violation so he didn't get to race. Johnny Spillane also didn't race as he partially dislocated his shoulder in a volleyball game and was having a hard time using his poles. Bryan Fletcher did a good job and finished 40th.

We just finished the Team Event on Sunday and while the result was not what we wanted there were some bright spots in there. The jumping competition was very tough. You had to jump over 130m twice to have any chance. I believe the 4 top teams had at least 2 guys per team over 130m on both jumps. It takes alot of depth in the team to have 4 guys who can do jump that well. Both Bill and Johnny jumped much better and at a level where they can fight for medals again in the race. Eric is getting better and better but just a little inconsistent and Bryan did a good job as the 4th guy on the team.

We are looking forward to the next and last event next weekend the Individual Gundersen on the K90. Our next jumping session is not until Wednesday so we will take a day to regroup and get ready for the next one. We came to these Championships in search of a medal and that goal has not changed. We expect to be fighting for medal on Saturday in the Individual competition.

Thanks for all the support!
